The slow rhythms that made famous such as Verga, D'Annunzio and Garibaldi fall in love, the villas set like small stones precious on the lake, the lapping of the fishing boats, the scent of the lake that mixes with the embers of the fish, the tolling of the bell of the Old Church, are just some of the characteristics of Belgirate, a perfect starting point for visiting the splendid Borromean Islands , Stresa and all the wonders of Lake Maggiore!

-Rocca di Angera - Doll and Toy Museum The Rocca di Angera is in a strategic position for the control of traffic, the historiographic tradition links the events of Angera to the Visconti family and to its affirmation after the victory of the battle of Desio in 1277, celebrated in the frescoes of the Hall of Justice. With the Visconti, the Rocca is at the center of important reconstruction and expansion works that will last for more than a century. The Rocca di Angera thus becomes the residence and symbol of the political order of the family to which it still belongs today. The expert that the cardinal had sent to the place suggested that essential repairs be made, but a little later, on the initiative of Julius Caesar III and then of Antonio Renato Borromeo, the fortress was extensively restored. The Museum, on the other hand, develops along 12 rooms located in the Visconti and Borromean wings, flanked by two single-themed sections: one dedicated to dolls from extra-European cultures and the other to the automatons of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Over a thousand dolls made from the 18th century to today, dressed and accompanied by precious kits. Also on display are toys and furniture models from the collection of Roberta della Seta Sommi Picenardi: masterpieces by skilled masters who made these prototypes with the same skill used for real furniture. The automatons section, inaugurated in 2002, collects specimens made mainly between 1880 and 1920, mostly produced in France and Germany, real animated marvels whose movement was accompanied by musical arias often drawn from well-known operas.
